MicroRNAs are a class of naturally-occurring, small non-coding RNAs that control gene expression by translational repression or mRNA degradation. The net effect is that much lower levels of a protein are expressed from a given mRNA transcript targeted by microRNAs. To study the roles microRNAs play in a model system, expression profiling is typically the first step, followed by overexpression and/or inhibition of the microRNAs of interest to study their phenotypic effects. The last steps include uncovering which transcripts the microRNAs bind to in order to dissect the signaling pathways involved. Custom Service to Profile Serum MicroRNAs

Exosomes are nanometer-sized membrane vesicles secreted by most cell types in vivo and in vitro. These microvesicles are found in blood, urine, amniotic fluid & tissue culture media, and contain distinct subsets of microRNAs depending upon the tumor from which they are secreted. SBI offers a service to isolate exosomes from your biofluid of choice (serum, urine, etc.) and purify the exosomal RNAs. The service can also include accurately profiling microRNAs across SBI's qPCR arrays for novel biomarker discoveries.
